PROCLAMATION
Whereas Bill Torrence served for 20 years or more as the First Vice President of the Merrimack Valley Branch NAACP, not because he could not have been president, but because he choose to accept the responsibility of working behind the scenes to make the Merrimack Valley Branch NAACP an important organization in this part of God’s world.
Whereas Bill Torrence and his wife Lillie were strong and effective Youth Council advisors when the Branch had an active Youth Council,
Whereas Bill Torrence worked long and hard each year to make the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast the excellent event that it is in the Merrimack Valley,
Whereas Bill Torrence was the key to making the Merrimack Valley Branch NAACP Soul Food Booth an integral part of the nationally celebrated Lowell Folk Festival into reality by traveling up and down the highways this time of year in order to put together all the ingredients to make down-home barbeque ribs and fried chicken dinners with sweet, sweet potato pie, and
Whereas Bill Torrence loved his family, loved the church, and loved the community, and made that love a reality by unstinted service to his wife, children, and grandchildren, to Calvary Baptist Church, and to the Merrimack Valley Branch NAACP,
Be it hereby resolved by the Merrimack Valley Branch and all those present here that we proclaim to the whole world and all those who can hear that
Bill Torrence was a strong person, a humble person, a faithful person, and a good human being, and
Bill Torrence is an excellent role model for young people and people of all ages to emulate, and
We all need to work together to continue the work Bill Torrence began.
(Bill, I know that while you were with us in the flesh you did not want any accolades. Now that you are at rest, we need to let everyone know that you were and are a real, genuine caring human being. )
